About Vishy AnandViswanathan Anand is the current undisputed World Chess Champion. He successfully defended his title in 2008 in a match with Vladimir Kramnik, winning by a score of 6½ - 4½. He defeated Veselin Topalov in 2010 by a narrow margin, 6½ - 5½. Vishy was born on December 11, 1969, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. Known for his lightning speed, he is reported to have lost only once on time, to Gata Kamsky. In the year 2000 Anand won the FIDE World Championship and the GSM World Blitz Cup. Recent victories include Linares 2007 and 2008, and the 2008 Mainz Rapid Chess Classic (for the 11th time!). In 2006 he posted his fifth victories in both Corus/Wijk Aan Zee and Melody Amber/Monaco. |
