Photo-journalist Harry Benson was one of the few people
Bobby Fischer would talk to during the
historic Fischer-Spassky World Championship
match in Reykjavik. Benson's intimate access
to Fischer allowed him to take these rare
exclusive photos of the elusive
and controversial chess genius during the 1972 match,
in which Fischer solidly defeated reigning champion
Boris Spassky.
Now these photos, from the semi-final
match with Petrosian in Buenos Aires, to his victory
in Iceland, are presented in one collection.
They give us insight into the private world of Bobby Fischer,
whom Benson, one of the most published photographers in Life
magazine, calls
"the most eccentric and most fascinating person I have ever photographed."
